From 2026, the 170 kg N/ha limit applies in the Netherlands for animal manure on your own land. The EU derogation has ended. This article covers placement capacity 2026 and what you need to do.
Placement capacity 2026 — overview
| Year | Max. N from animal manure (kg N/ha) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| until 2023 | 250 (derogation) | Netherlands had exception |
| 2024–2025 | Phase-out (see phase-out table) | Transition |
| 2026 | 170 | No more derogation |
What is placement capacity?
Your placement capacity 2026 = total hectares × 170 kg N. Everything your livestock produces above that is surplus and must be removed — otherwise you risk enforcement by the NVWA.
What should you do?
- Calculate your placement capacity and production (cows, pigs, hectares).
- See immediately if you have surplus and the estimated cost.
- Search the market for off-takers or transport.
